WNY Rugby Academy Participant Code of Conduct
WNY Rugby Academy exists to help players develop, compete and represent their communities. Everyone who joins a clinic, camp or webinar (players, coaches, volunteers and guests) agrees to this code.
OUR STANDARDS
We play by rugby's core values: integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline and respect.
- Respect everyone. Treat teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, volunteers and staff with courtesy, on the field and online.
- Include everyone. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment, bullying, hazing or abusive language based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, background or ability.
- Be coachable. Listen to coaches, follow instructions and give honest effort.
- Be a good teammate. Encourage others, share the ball and help each other improve.
- Respect the venue. Follow the rules of any facility we use, and leave the space as you found it.
SAFETY ON THE FIELD
Rugby is a physical contact sport. We take safety seriously and expect everyone to do the same.
- Use safe technique. Tackle and contest the ball only as coached. No dangerous play, high tackles, or contact with a player who is not in position to protect themselves.
- Wear a mouthguard and appropriate footwear. Remove jewelry that could cause injury.
- Report injuries right away. Tell a coach about any injury or pain, even if it seems minor.
- Take head injuries seriously. Any player with a suspected concussion is removed from activity. They will not return the same day, and we recommend seeing a medical professional.
- Stay hydrated and tell us if you feel unwell. Stop if you feel dizzy, faint or in pain.
- No alcohol, drugs, vaping or tobacco at any WNY Rugby Academy event or while on the facility. Do not take part if impaired.
- No weapons at any event.
REPORTING CONCERNS
If you see or experience behavior that breaks this code, or you feel unsafe, tell a coach or organizer at the event, or email WNYRugbyAcademy@gmail.com. We review every report promptly and respectfully.
CONSEQUENCES
Anyone who breaks this code may be asked to leave the event, removed from future events, or, for serious incidents, reported to the appropriate authorities. We may do this without a refund.
PHOTOS AND VIDEO
We may take photos and video at events for promotion. If you prefer not to be included, tell a coach at check-in.
By registering for a WNY Rugby Academy event, you agree to follow this code of conduct.
